Mel has spent the majority of his career in the biotech and healthcare industry, where he has over 30 years experience building successful biotech companies and commercialising a wide range of Australian technology.
He was co-founder of listed companies Panbio and ImpediMed, and is currently the Chairman of ASX listed companies Alchemia, ImpediMed and Incitive as well as a Director of Benitec and Genera Biosystems. Mel is the Chairman of a number of private biotechnology companies including Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne based biotech companies.
As Chairman, Mel was lead negotiator on the successful trade sale of Four Hats Capital backed, Catapult Genetics to Pfizer.
Mel has a track record in founding, as well as assisting, a variety of technology companies to high end exits. Mel has a 100% track record to date in completing IPO exits for investors – the latest, ImpediMed, oversubscribed in a difficult market, drawing a 75% institutional register. Mel has extensive experience in commercial and M&A transactions and liquidity events for investors both in Australia and overseas – to date his track record exceeds $1 billion dollars in completed transactions.
Mel is a serial entrepreneur having founded five successful technology companies. He has received numerous business and industry awards including the AusBiotech Chairman’s Gold Medal and the Queensland Government Premier’s award for his contribution to the biotechnology industry. Mel was also awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and the Business Bulletin Business Star Award.
During his career he has raised over $300 million in biotech investment capital.
